: UPDATE re forum image posting bug "error 1784/1994"
: TugMaster December 21, 2008, 13:25:46
To all,

Just to let you know the server host company recently joined the forum to try to replocate the image posting problems we have been having. They have just replied and I thought it would be nice to keep y'all updated.

Their recent email reply:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding your hosting account, modeltugforum.com.

In reference to the issue you have been experiencing with Simple Machines Forum on this account, we are currently working on finding a resolution to the database connectivity issues. Once more information is gathered, a response will be sent to you via e-mail with the details of what the resolution is. Keep in mind that code modifications to the Simple Machines Forum installation will need to be performed by you, if the resolution lies in modifications to the scripts themselves. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this may cause and that you may have endured, and greatly appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Regards,

Scott V.

Lets hope they manage to find the cause of the problem.

Sorry Boss, but that just sounds to me like they are fobbing you off in the hope that the problem just goes away. I don't think they have a clue what the problem is or it would no longer be one!!! >:D >:D

I know you will keep a close eye on them, but that reply does not give me confidence.

Got stopped by the dreaded '1784' twice this morning.
Got round it by just sending the photo on its own and it went ok. Then clicked the 'Modify' button and added my text

Well, I tried Manxman's work-around and it worked - once! But it wanted me to fill in the title, which caused me another trauma trying to remember the name of the thread (which I got wrong by a hyphen, so new thread created).  Next time, I got a 1994 - twice! The second time, it warned me that I could only post three pictures at a time, so it must have been aware somewhere in the windmills of its mind that I had already tried to send three (the same three).

It's bizarre.

I've noticed this too, when posting Imara pictures, the number your allowed to send has been reduced from 10 to 3 per posting.
Must have something to do with the credit crunch - cut backs !
: Re: UPDATE from Tugmaster re forum image posting "error 1784/1994"
: TugMaster January 08, 2009, 16:21:08
Ken, I reduced it from 10 to 3 pics to see if this would help on advice from the host.

However, I have found out tonight that this error 1784 problem and such like is effecting lots forums that run the same software as we do. It seems that we are squeezed on to a server with many other websites and so sometimes its difficult to get our information ..ie posts/pics loaded on to that server....its a kind of que/stand in line that times out.

It may help if you have problems to sign out and then delete your browsers cookies, re sign in and retry to post your images, worked for me, worth a try....or you can host your picture with someone like www.imagecave.com and then post them here....or send them to me and I'll post them for you.

We may have to look at running the forum on our own seperate server, still looking into it. Our host is not being to helpful so we may have to move.

Thanks for your patience.

TugMaster

I found the best way to get images posted is to
type in your text, submit the post, then
modify the post and add the images the second
time around.

:)

We've made some more adjustments to the forum and Tugs, Tango and Myself have been posting test pics behind the scenes and while its not yet 100% perfect we all think its definately improved.

We have changed the setting on how long it is before you have to re-sign back in if your session on the forum is idle. It was set to an hour but normally it is shorter. By reducing this time it frees up connections to the server for members trying to post.

We are continuing to work on the issue.

Cheers

the site started to reject previousley used picture names when the picture side bar on the left started, and so I may be wrong but you have to use a name for the picture that is unique.I started getting a bit fed up after doing a wright up and it getting lost for the second time hence the post then modify and put pictures on , I think if you use your own unnique names there is not a problem but by time I had discoverd this I had been a bit put off, I also right click on mouse then copy befor posting then if it goes wrong you have not lost all your typing (I do this on all sites I post on)

Not been on the forum long but i have never had this and i have posted a few pics on this site now.

I click the little image ikon in the menu above 1st (3rd in form the left on the bottom row), then put the little vertical black bar thing that stays in front of your typing (No idea what its called) right in the middle [ IMG ] black line thing [ /img ] i then paste the image i have in their, it has worked so far (Fingers crossed).

Sorry if i am preaching to the converted.

My way works fine for images off the web, but not with personnel pics stored on my pc

To use the [ img] http://*[/img] tags, the images have to be posted to a server that will
assign it an HTML address. ie: Http://*

To do this the images need to be posted to someplace like imageshack or photobucket.
Once this is done, click on the image to  view it. If you right click on the image, and
select properties, then a data window will pop up and show an http address ending with .jpg.
copy and past that code between the [img ]http://...[ /img] tags and your image should show up
in your post.

So if you right click on the image below, and select properties, you should see the imageshack
http address.

Imageshack also offers thumbnail codes, and if you use the  "Thumbs" for forums it will
appear like the small image below, but you can click on it to see the full size picture

(http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/9087/1000092copytq1.th.jpg) (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1000092copytq1.jpg)

Of course the link is directed to the imageshack website, and pop up ads are rampant...

If you use photobucket, below the thumbnail image in your gallery, there is usally
a button that can be pressed to pop up a window with the thumbnail or full size picture HTML addresses.
