: My Build of the S.A. EVERARD
: model tugman October 16, 2013, 11:19:01
^-^ Another one on the Slipway, a 1/24th scale plank on frame of the Thames Craft tug S A Everard later to be the Hazel E.
Lighterman posted a small G A of her so I scaled it up to 1/24th and used the lines plan of the Cullermix with an extra. frame added.

First job was to transfer the lines onto card and cut them out ans set them on the building board to check all was fair,

After checking the lines were drawn onto 9mm marine ply and cut out, then assembled onto the building board

the next job was to fair the frames and then start on the planking I am using 3mm x 10mm  lime strips for this ,it is expensive but it is so flexible and easy to use that it is worth it, there is about 8 hours worth of planking so far in the pictures.with about the same again to do.   Geo

Thank you George, for sharing the most fine of planking pictures
for your S.A.EVERARD. You have captured its classic old tugboat
stern lines to a tee. Very nice and major helpful for all of us tug
plankers here on the Forum.

Has the deck have a crown in it ? And don't forget the shear ,plywood only bends in one direction.
Gary
: Re: My Build of the S.A. EVERARD
: model tugman October 18, 2013, 07:51:45
^-^  Gary,  yes she has camber to her decks and also she has sheer forward, I have used 3mm ply and I find that by carefully nailing and glueing it will bend in two directions quite easily, this one only has a small sheer so the deck went on in one piece, if the sheer is greater i cut the deck down the middle lengthways to allow a bit more upward bend, if you look at the two pictures below you can see the sheer and camber on the deck and the deck beams. For a little break from building today I have decided to plate the hull, I use 100gsm paper for this, and after marking out where the plate are to go I start at the stern and from the keel and apply the plates using thinned down PVA  after placing the fist strake the next and subsequent ones will require joggling or overlaping to do this I just place the plat over the edge of a steel rule and run my thumbnail along one edge and and also one end and hey presto a joggled plate, after plating and all is nice and dry and hard I give it all a couple of coats of sanding sealer before painting.

After a busy weekend back to modelling, I have got a litle more done on the S A Everard, I have made a few fittings and put a bit of paint on her , progress is slowing down owing to the time the paintwork and twinkie bits take ,but she is getting there.

Well, done Geo! Loverly model. The plate work looks the business. Its tough to build one when there are no hull lines but your experience has paid off!
