: THAMES TUG DANUBE VIII
: model tugman June 25, 2015, 07:57:20
This is the start of the latest build, she is going to be the Danube VIII, of Tilbury contracting and dredging Co.
The hull is a Robbe Jan steam tug hull that I have had for a couple of years, I have removed half of the thick rubbing band and altered the forward section of the bulwarks to give her more tumblehome forward.
the deck beams were laminated with camber and fitted ,and then the motor and shaft were installed along with a bigger rudder, then the decks were cut from 3mm ply and fitted.

The steering servo fitting box was then made up ready for fitting

The insides of the bulwarks were lined with 1.5 mm ply to cover the fibre glass, and the main superstructure coaming fitted  and the superstructure casing started.
thats all for now

George,
How do you pick your subjects and do you need to research them or are you, by now, now able to figure them out from a few photos.
Steve

Hi Steve After working with and around tugs for over 50 years, and the fact that I come from  tugging family,I have a pretty big photo database of them and at the moment lots of memories to work from.
As for subjects I prefer the older tugs as they are the ones that I worked on mainly, although I have made ones with greenhouse wheel boxes, but not many.

The models are really built from photo,s and drawing that I draw myself, unless in rare occasions drawings are available, funny thing is I built the tug Napia from the original builders plans, which were Very expensive from the maritime museum, and people still say she looks wrong, you can,t beat your own instincts. And eyes mate,If it looks right it must be right.   Geo

Hi George,
Yet another lovely model. Really impressed with the planking round the curve of the wheelhouse, she's a beautiful tug and again built to a very high standard, well done.
      Cheers,
          Pete/Faz.

Hello again   Here are the latest pictures of progress on the Danube VII, still quite a few bits and bobs to add and all the electrics to sort out yet, but I am hoping to get her in the water on Sunday at our tug Fun day, just to see how she ballasts out and try to run her around a bit.
