: Another 80s style tug build
: model tugman October 02, 2015, 08:47:10
I was not going to put this on the Forum as it is not a realtug ,but a lookalike, it is a 44" fibre glass hull from the loft that has been hanging around for a few years, and as I found myself wanting to take a break from modelling for a while BUT soon got bored, I have decided to use this hull and make a tug similar in looks to the Ready to run New Castle tug that Graupner used to market.
One big difference and I mean BIG is the Kort nozzle the one that I am using comes from the Robbe Odin and it is 4" or 100mm Dia and I am using up a lot of spare parts that I have so she has a 5 Bladed prop as well,as you can see from the pictures I have had to drop the skeg about 20mm to get it all in.

For those that do not know the New Castle here are a couple of pictures of one that I Had, but is now in South Africa.

The decks are made from 3mm ply with plenty of support underneath and the bulwarks have been lined with 0.8mm ply to cover the fibre glass, and I have raised the forward section of the bulwarks to match the pattern tug.

The superstructure has been made with 3mm ply sides and frames and a1.5mm ply top

: model tugman October 02, 2015, 08:59:17
The wheel box is again made from 1.5mm ply

: model tugman October 02, 2015, 09:01:19
The combined funnel and mast is made  from a mixture of 1.5 and 0.8 mm ply again, I do like a bit of wood

That Sarah B is a very nice tug.

Something to be said for that era of tug building. Unfortunately these days curves cost money to include into ship building.

Thanks for preserving the past.

Hi George,
I like the look of the superstructure that's just what I had in mind for the next project (the Smit Polen hull with Faz's take on it). I shall watch with interest although I am not too sure about the funnel mast combination. I am going to have a go at building the superstructure in wood for a change, keep the pic's coming.
     Kind regards,
           Faz.

Don't read too much into the feedback, plenty of people view the posts as guests and many members are a little shy to make a comment, especially on a build so good.

I've had issues with photos previously and the problem seems to be totally random sometimes it can last for weeks. I suspect that it may be a problem deep within the program. I've tried downsizing images as jpg, tiff and png files. Jpg seems to be the most widely accepted format. I use Photoshop for this but there are several other free programs available for PC.
I generally try to keep individual files under 300kb in size, at 72 pixels  per inch.
Has been working OK recently but in so saying I've probably cursed it.

: model tugman November 21, 2015, 04:08:00
Hi Steve, yes I normally have no trouble posting pics after resizing them ,but for some reason I was allowed to post a couple but somehow the site took exception to 3others and wouldn't post them,it gets a bit frustrating so I know now how others feel,it makes people give up and not try at all,one of the site problems perhaps?

Nice boat George!  The pic thing can be frustrating.  I don't try to load more than 2 at a time, ever.  If that works I load a couple more on the next post.  I have had no problems of late doing this. I first size my pics in Paint Shop and it seems to work fine. And yes, that being a problem at times, plus the loss of so many other pics already posted here is an issue for us.  I see where lots of the pix I and others posted before are just gone.

Trying another picture one at a time again she now has portholes and more detail on the after end.
I posted one and then modified and slipped in another.
