We are planning to stay in Vancouver  :) as part of our holiday in May and are putting together an itinerary that makes sense (I hope) to forum members here but none whatsoever to most everyone else.

I am interested in the small Logging type tugs and hope to see as many as possible! Where in Vancouver do I want to be to see them and is there a reasonably priced (& pleasant) hotel that overlooks them? If it also let me see freight trains I may never leave.

Where do the logging tugs dock - a list would be really helpful.

Found the thugs (I think) at the inlet behind Stanley Park and the river behind Sea Island and the airport.

Now for the hotel.

Hopefully someone would have arrested the thugs, making it safe to view the tugs! :)

When heading over to Van - often stay at the Inn on the Quay in New West - you can catch a lot of tug activity from the room or walk along the river there. Put the Siitech AIS on and you'll see the tugs coming through. Taken lots of photos there.

Wow.... Where has everyone on this forum gone???

Interesting news in Nanaimo this week,

the tug Albern with Jones Marine Group has sank near Gabriola Island. This is the second Jones tug to sink in that area in 2 years. The other, the Samantha J has not yet been recovered and is apparently in the courts.

Thanks to all of you Gents for providing such Great information and pictures, the BC Tugs, particularly those that manage the great log rafts, are of particular interest to some of us here in the U.S. ~

Not much activity here for a few months - here are some photos from the weekend taken at the Quay in New Westminster.

A few tugs still working on New Years eve -
Ballantyne Straits had a heavy tow with two other tugs on the stern. Will post them later.

All the Best in 2017!

Hi Ray
A bad habit of mine is to have the SiiTech site on and I can see what boats are moving. Got lucky though and caught a few working over the weekend. This time we were on the side of the hotel looking down on the Smit group of tugs moored there.
Some more photos may be posted on the RCG site later.

Hello everyone,

Seaspan has a couple tugs at Arrow Marine to be scrapped.  They are: Seaspan Crusader, Seaspan Navigator and Cates 18.  It is also rumored the Seaspan Victor has already been cut up.

Anyone else have information

I finally have a reply and some photos of the boats at Arrow to post after a long absence from this forum but the same thing is happening that drove me away earlier.  The dreaded "Your attachment has failed security checks and cannot be uploaded. Please consult the forum administrator."

Any tips?
