A FREE-LANCE ZWARTE-ZEE
« on: June 05, 2009, 12:53:31 »
I thought I would start a build log on my Billings kit ZWARTE ZEE, as you will see from the topic header it will be a 'FRELANCE-TUG' (later on in the build log you will see why  ;) ;))

So for a start, I have trimmed the ABS hull down ;

Finally for today I had a hard job in trying to line up the pre-cut sections for the rudder and propellor post, these came in 3 sections each but were well out of line so I have glued & clamped them and will come up with an idea tomorrow as to what to do, I might just make brass ones instead, anyway, that is todays progress on this vessel, I have spent more time on my other build and will start a log on that one in a few days time  :)

Regards, Dan.

Way to go Dan - that's some project!

Let me know what basic type you are looking for and I will find a photo of a similar one for you - and if you want any hands on advice of what kit goes where - ask. This was my type of ship when I was at sea!

Hi Jonty, I am going to follow the same design as the original ZWARTE ZEE but just different colours and a few 'modifications' The destructions are very easy to follow but as I said over on the other topic, I am scanning the wooden sheets and printing them onto plasticard to get a better finish, thanks for your offer of help, keep watching and tell me where I am going wrong !! More updates in a few days time  :)

Dan,

Here is a heads up for you then my man - courtesy of an ex tuggie!

You might have seen them - you might not but it's possibly one of the best references for her there is:

http://members.chello.nl/rverburg/pagina_zwartezee4_foto.html - in Dutch but you'll get the idea.

And one of their brochures which you can download here: http://members.chello.nl/rverburg/folder9000.html

How's that for service?

A little bit more done today, as you will see I have filed down the rudder and propeller mount and installed it, I have not completely filled around them to get a smooth finish as I will do this when the decks have been fitted, the ABS hull is to thin to be holding and sanding, so that will be done in the next few days.

Regards, Dan.

Finally I cut out the aft deck and glued in place, a small bit of filling to do in certain areas, also the port side forward deck support which will dry over night. Thats it for today, not too much progress as I have been spraying another boat in my second workshop.

Cheers, Dan.
