Westminster Apache
« on: November 10, 2009, 03:21:25 »
I've had this question sent in and I said I would post it here.

Hopefully someone will be able to help.

The question was:

I was looking for was some information on the tugboat "Westminster
apache, my father actually picked the name before he passed away and
near the wheelhouse is a plaque dedicated to him, so I was trying to
locate the tug as I heard it was sold by Westminster Tugs. Wanted to
know if the plaque is still on the boat

Ok, so I like a drop !

The 'Westminster Apache' still carries that plaque, as far as I know.
I remember seeing a photo of it in Western Mariner magazine.

She was never really sold, as Westminster Tug was a wholly owned subsidiary of RivTow Marine, which was bought by Smit Canada.

All the 'Westminster' tugs kept their names, while any of the tugs with the 'RivTow' prefixes were changed to Smit.

For example: The 'Rivtow Princess' became the 'Smit Princess'.

May still reside at the New West pier just south of the Quay there. I thought I had a photo of it but only of some of the others.
