Hi Kieran

5 inch may be a specialty item - either Propshop or G Sitek (both in the UK). Ray might be able to add a note.

Brass seems to be on the pricey side - went to buy a piece of 1/4 x 3/4 brass stock, needed 4 inches, thought I'd at least buy a foot of it to make it worth cutting - $18 - should have gone and looked in my junk trays!

I was in a marine store called 'Trotac Marine' today (havent been in there in years), and was pleasantly surprised to find that they stock all sorts of great stuff us modellers can use :) :)
They're located in Victoria BC, adjacent to the Coast Guard base.

Such as 'D' style rubber...in 5 different sizes. cool cool

'O' style rubber as well.

All sorts of small diameter cordage that we can use for towline. Even real 'Spectra' which the real tugs use.

Small Brass and S/Steel swivels for towing.

Plus much more. :) :) :) :)

I haven't been there for at least a year - good head's up for the fender material though.
See what Mike finds when you let him wander!

Not so good in my opinion

lowell briggs hobbies .... my first order with them was disappointing to say the least.

The parts I wanted were marked N/A or out of stock and the fluff items I ordered just because were the only items shipped .
The items sent to me were common items that I could get at any hobby store. ( Robbed parts )

If it advertised for sale on the website , the order confirmation comes back with all the items requested and then with no communication from the vendor the order is shipped incomplete , not back ordered , just marked N/A ..

I would say that my first experience with them will probably be the last ....

NOT IMPRESSED

Any comment I make is the official view of all the voices in my head.

I've had good service and got what I wanted from Great Hobbies out of Edmonton.  Check their web site.  Lots of goodies in stock.

I've had very good dealings with both those mentioned :) :)

Course I try to promote our forum with them...suggesting they advertise and such...but I think mentioning being connected with 'any' modelling forum goes a long way towards being treated honestly and fairly.

'Word of mouth' is very important to any retail outlet these days; with the internet and all!

I've had good service and got what I wanted from Great Hobbies out of Edmonton.  Check their web site.  Lots of goodies in stock.

Great hobbies is my primary hobby shop however they are limited on what they carry for boats ... electronics and basic building supplies are OK  and of course all the RTR stuff you could want...

I need scale boat fittings , specialty stuff that seems to be carried by every hobby store in Europe ...
Around here you have cars , helis and planes , that's it ....

I have been as creative as I can be making parts ... I use .308 shell casings for gas cylinders , staples for ladder rungs , and electronic crystals for emergency boxes .... I just need things like scale shackles ... I can make one however making two the same without a mold of some sort is almost impossible.

When I saw the scale shackles on the lowell brigs site I ordered them that instant ... the one thing I actually wanted was not sent.... I understand things being out of stock or no longer available .... I just expect some sort of communication telling me so .... A person has to give phone numbers , email addresses and all sorts of information to process an order so there is no excuse for not contacting a customer when an order can't be filled ....  no excuse at all ...

Any comment I make is the official view of all the voices in my head.
