The Price Of Styrene ?
« on: August 23, 2010, 12:47:18 »
What do you pay for sheets of styrene ?

To cut a long story short, I used to pay at my last local model shop :

£3 for 2 half size A4 sheets of 1mm Evergreen

£3.50 for 2 half size A4 sheets of 1.5mm Evergreen

£4 for 2 half size A4 sheets of 2mm Evergreen

Since moving house I have just discovered a small craft outlet where I can buy ;

1mm A4 sheet for 78pence

1.5mm A4 sheet for 99pence

2mm A4 sheet for £1.45.

There is no postage involved as it is only a stones throw away from my house  ;)

When I discovered this find I bought the total stock  :)

A bargin or not ?????

Regards, Dan.

Dan:

Looks like you got a real deal!!

The local shop here almost doubled there prices for Evergreen and Plastruct products last spring.

Man I hate it when they do that :(

Just out of interest, what are other forum members paying for styrene sheets (A4) ?

I have been back to the shop and bought another 50 sheets of 1mm, 1.5mm & 2mm  :)

Also, now in stock is clear plastic, a A4 sheet (1mm) at a mere 75p, got 10 of them today!

You never know when you might need it !

I suppose every one is entitled to there own preference  when it comes to the material used for modelling. I wonder how many builds would be on this forum if it wasn’t for the plastic builds.

I found a local plastic wholesale stockist who would sell me large sheets for a lot less than you pay for it by the A4, The thickness we need is used a lot by the sign making industry so is generally easily available locally, for me that would mean Leeds. Apparently its available in different colours too, just be aware that it can have a glossy side and a mat side but that shouldn't be a problem. I can't remember the size of sheet I bought, it could have been in printers sizes like A1 or A0 but it was certainly a lot cheaper.

Dave
Got mine here
http://www.amariplastics.com/amariplastics/
They have a place in Manchester, they were very helpful in Leeds and didn't mind doing a one off sale to joe public

Alternatively chat up a local sign maker and ask them where they buy from

Best of Luck
