Hi Tony,
Don't forget the model railway suppliers, lots of shaped material etc. saw one recently (Squires) offering 0.75mm Brass wire in 12" lengths (Ah metrication!!) qty 10 for 2.99 no doubt plus VAT & P&P.
And a welcome to the Forum, I suspect you will have the advice of many to suit your requirements.
Regards

I too have bought some brass wire from Squires and the price in there book / web-site includes the dreaded VAT and if your order comes to the value of 10 or more postage is included, and normally its with you within 2 days.

Why not use some old copper single core cable?
available in different diameters, dependent on amperage of the cable, but 0.5mm, 1.5mm 2.0mm, 2.5mm  readily available, ask your local electrician, bet he;s got loads of offcuts he would readily donate, as too short to use on any household wiring job, but damm useful for model boat rails.

the "flat twin n earth" stuff reaps 3 single core cables in one helping. Plus if you do it right, gives you some useful plastic sleeving too for hoses or wiring join sleeves too.
Best Wishes.

Gregg.
