1/24 Ships Lifeboat
« on: March 09, 2014, 06:31:16 »
Does anyone know of a source for a ships life boat in 1/24 scale? I've been looking at Model Marine who do a 3.5" and a 5", I ordered the 3.5" but it is too small and I fear the 5" may be too small also. For 1/24 scale what size does that relate to in mm? 110mm or 120mm maybe?

^-^  Freightliner  1/24th scale is half inch to the foot so depending on the size of the life boat in the first place   ie. a 16 ft lifeboat would come out at 8"" or 202mm by 3" or 77mm wide so quite large, for my 1/24th tugs I have to make my own, but I always display them with the covers on, which I make from old pillow case material, .  Geo

 ^-^ Geo,

I think they look fabulous. I've researched my tug, Zeeland, but there is very little info that I have managed to unearth. I have only one old image showing part of a lifeboat but most images show the tug from the opposite side so I have no idea how big the original one was.

^-^  Andy I found this If it's any good to you, it looks like she had a transom ended workboat rather than a lifeboat if you know her size you could scale the size of the boat from the rawings,   geo

Yes, it is a transom work boat, I found the schematic that you sent already. I can only find this  http://www.mobilemarinemodels.com/acatalog/copy_of_Dinghy_s_.html  scroll down to part no:SDK5, but it's only 5" long. How many crew would've been on this tug do you think?

Hello Andy   I have had a look in the spares box and come up with a 7.5 inch vac formed transom workboat hull which would equate to a 15ft dinghy, it is 7.5 x 3 inches if it's any good to you.  Geo

Hi Geo,

That would be great mate, thank you for taking the time to have a look. If you have a PayPal account PM me your address and let me know what you want for it?

Thanks once again, it will look perfect!

I see you are in Gravesend, I'm in Biggin Hill, you must know of some decent boating lakes? The only one near me that I know of is in Orpington.

Cheers mate,
