Engine fire on K-SEA tug
« on: June 12, 2014, 08:28:20 »

The 44 meter long,  608 gt tugboat Viking suffered a fire off Block Island, Rhode Island.  The fire started in the vesselís engine room, but was quickly extinguished by the vesselís on board fire-fighting system.  No reports of injuries to the 10 crew on board.  The fire disabled the Viking who notified authorities.  The Coast Guard dispatched multiple craft to the scene.  The owner of the Viking also dispatched several tugs to provide assistance.  The crew of the Viking were able to restart the tugís engines a short time later and was escorted by another tug to Buzzards Bay.  No reports of pollution released.  Reports state the Viking had suffered a fire on May 30,  2014 while berthed in Richmond Terrace, New York.
