As far as I was able to see on his website the Schottels were self-made with the help of a friend, not purchased parts.

That is lovely work. I drew up a schottle unit years ago to build from scratch and the biggest problem I could see was cramming it all into the bottom piece where the bevel gears will be and precise alignment needed, I never thought about using copper plumbing bits and the great thing with these is you can solder to them and there not effected with the water in way of rusting up. Again superb job.
