Hi All
One of my (many) current projects is Gillian Knight tug , I have a few pic's to work from but I'm looking for more details on the steering mechanism,  I believe it used chain and rods probably similar to other vessels of the time.
Any help /pic's most welcome  ;)
Cheers

Hi Spud,

I have attached a few examples I found for my Franklin model. The build log is under steam tugs. I used "road wheels" from tank models for the rollers. Tanks come in many different scales and I'm sure you will be able to find something that will work with your tug.

Last ones. I was not able to find anything specific for your tug but this should get you in the ballpark.

Hi Model Tug Man

Thanks for your reply and taking the time to post  the pictures ,they will be helpful,

Your build of the franklin is very impressive, I like steam tugs  ,the large funnel or funnels in your case .
I'm building Gillian Knight  because it is a local tug and thinking that there would be plenty of info but that's not the case..

Cheers

True. I looked at many of my usual sources for tug information hoping to find something relating to your tug and came up blank. I have had to rely on generic information for my build in several instances due to lack of specific pictures or descriptions. In the end we have to do the best we can with the information available. I am sure you will end up with a great looking model.

Hi All,

Its been a while but after having a great day out at a model show , I decided to continue my build of Gillian Knight,
I normally install the running gear into the hull 1st to check it's performance on the water before fitting a deck ,(not sure why I didn't )  but here is the result so far

I'm looking at fitting a 555 motor to run on  6 volts
any comments will be welcome

Hi Model Tug Man
Sorry I should have thanked you for your previous posts,  I have bought a couple of photos of the tug with most of the information I need.
It's been a slow build so far but I hope to finish it for early next year ☺

For some reason I can't see any of the images that MTM posted.
Is this the same Gillian Knight? Not too many images popped up in a google search.
If it is, what a great subject. Does it still work in your area? if you contact the owners they may let you onboard to get some photos. When they find out that you are making one of their boats they sometimes soften up. It has worked for me a few times.
Look forward to more progress photos.

Hi tug-arlyn-nelson and sea monkey
I can't see the pic's either , maybe the host site is down??

I believe that it is still working on the river Hull / Humber (in the UK), I have pictures of the tug at 3 different stages of its life , the 1st two are only minor changes mainly the colour, but more recent years a new super structure has been fitted and probably removed /updating the steering mechanism.
I will try to post pic's ,
I didn't really think of contacting the owner as my model is taken from the early years  ,although it would still be good to go on board or a trip ☺
Thanks for your replies
