Sun Essex into Sun London
« on: February 20, 2015, 06:38:15 »
This is a conversion of a set of Sun Essex mouldings bought from the Internet. they are at 1/24th scale and consisted of the hull, superstructure, wheelhouse and funnel in fibre glass.
The Essex and London were near sisters the external differences were the wheelhouse, position of the funnel and the fire monitors on the mast,
The London had a bigger wheelhouse with an integral funnel and no monitors.
So the first thing was to cut the wheelhouse off and re-make it in ply,

I had already fitted the deck and running gear last year and put her to one side, she has a 6.5" dia nozzle and a 6" prop ,the motor is a  van cooling fan motor.

  Hi George,
More outstanding work! looks great how did you do the trim around the windows? I've had some fun and games with the Sun XX1 but yours looks just right. Thanks for the tow hook drawings but I don't know how I've done it but I have lost the Email (opened it on the bloody mobile in Scarborough) any chance you could send it again? More pic's soon of the Sun progress is good.
        Cheers,
             Peter. :)
The photo is my Lowgarth Mountfleet models but my own design and build (the kit quality and fit was very poor) I scatch built the superstructure from photos of the Foylegarth and scaled it off the figures. Sails superbly.

A little update on the Sun London, she is now ready for final ballasting and sea trials, just in time for the new season start at the club.
