Storm Force-West coast tug.
« on: March 21, 2015, 20:56:48 »
Wasn't going to do a build log, but thought I would throw in a few pics as my build progresses.  Not by any means an accurate replica as I only have a few pictures taken when in Campbell River BC to work from.  Hull is glass from G K.

Not sure if this is what the underwater section actually looks like but it is about as much as I could see from the dock.

A bit slow going these days as a lot of other home projects seem to get in the way.  Anyhow, getting down to the smaller details.  Was not able to get any details of what the wheel house should look like, so I'm just fakin' it so I can get it done.  The tow winch is pretty close as I got pictures of it.

Amazing detail!
Should be a cup of coffee and a ham sandwich on the dash when you are done!  And of course, binos.

Hi Ray,
No it isn't a working winch at this time, but I built it so that all I have to do is add either a gear or chain drive later and mount the drive motor under the deck.  The drum is free wheeling.  This tug tows log booms up and down the BC coast so if I decide to build a log boom, I'll make the winch working.

Its nice to see something being made from the hull. You will probably have a sore back after playing with it ,If I remember it's about 50 LBs.
Gary
Ron B made this one some time ago.

Thanks Gary, that is the first one I have seen.  Hopefully will get to sail her this summer if the city gets their act together and finishes all the pond mods they want to do for us to use it.  Am enjoying the build.  Just wish I had taken a  lot more pictures when I was in Campbell River last fall.  Think I have enough to make it look like the Storm Force  (from a distance anyway)

Would that be the same Storm Force that used to belong to Sheilds Navigation? If so, I did a couple of gravel runs on her way back when ... really way back when.

Don't know too much about the history of Storm Force.  Shields Navigation doesn't ring a bell with any info I did manage to find, but now you have peaked my interest, so will do a little more digging.

I believe that Sheilds Navigation is now part of Island Tug and Barge. I think they merged a few years ago.

Edit in ... Here is the link with some history ....   http://itbmarine.com/about/history/
