The parts that I ordered got here yesterday. While I can make them work, it sounds like I might be better off with the proper ones.

Any idea how I can contact Ron?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Tom

Thanks Ray

I am curious ... was the reason for using the Robbe geared motor to get the required 50 rpm's or so? If so, then there all sorts of strong, efficient, inexpensive geared motors that are used in robotics.

Another thought I have had (medication can make your mind wander) given the size of this lovely winch and the weight of it being higher up, does it effect the balance of the boat at all?

I went and had a quick look and found this type of geared motor ...  http://www.robotshop.com/ca/en/cytron-12v-58rpm-36oz-in-spur-gearmotor.html

This one might still be a bit quick, but it does look robust. I saw some slower ones the other day but forgot to bookmark it (medication again).

Cheers

Not much progress due to health, but lots of parts to play with when I get back to it.
