Next one on the slipway HMRT. Growler
« on: May 12, 2016, 08:44:45 »
This is the next one to be tackled, unfortunately the hull is not the right shape forward as it has no flare to the bow,and it was very prominent on these boats.
So I am going to have to build the bow out with filler and fibre glass, to allow this to be done the hull needs stiffening as it is very flexible, plenty of deck beams and inwhales are required and a thin under deck so that tha shape can be got right.

A couple of pictures showing the flare forward on the real thing and the hull shape as mould end.

I have started to fill the bow in order to get the flare, and fitted the fore and aft bearers the bow had to have to pieces fitted to get the right deck shape and to give me a line to fill out to, that's all for now,   Geo

Another problem found with this particular hull moulding is that the stern is the totally wrong shape and the Skeg ends too far foward,if measured to scale it puts the prop 26 feet foward of the stern,so by using ply and filler I have re shaped and extended the skegfurther aft, this gives an added bonus of now being able to swing an 85 MM prop instead of the 70 MM gap that was there before.
The pictures show the original keel and the modified one in progress of being made.

A bit more done to Growler,I am using up all my odds and ends of timber whilst waiting for the stuff that I have ordered.
The motor mount is made ,as are the bilge keels, the engine room skylight, and funnel.
And a start has been made on the superstructure.
