Nelson NZ . Newest Tug in the Port Nelson Fleet.

Built at at the Damen Shipyard in Changde China, the vessel completed the final 5800 kilometre leg of its journey from Papua New Guinea this morning, entering the Cut just after 8am.

Phil. They can swap with Otago as practically the same colours.

Not as nice a colour as the Timaru tugs:-)

All of the NZ tugs are starting to look alike these days. Cookie cutter designs from either Damen or RA Allen. The similar Damen in Wellington is also called Toia. I guess they are cheaper for the ports but not so interesting for us.

As we know anything 'Non-Standard" these days costs more. Just look at the housing estates of Christchurch or Auckland. Buy it off the plan as they say.

Those Damens are not cheaper but the Port companies know what they are getting and they are well proven and do the job intended. To some degree there are no many options in design, Damen being built in selected yard in Turkey, Netherlands, Romania and Vietnam plus other. R.A designed also franchised out here and there.

Hey, not only has the last Timaru tug a smashing colour scheme, we also selected a random Chinese river tug, what more could you want?? :-) At least when the hull has dissolved into rust the Niigata engines and thrusters will be available for a Damen!!

All comes down to price in the end.
