Building a 52 inch steam tug . Using a 4 inch horizontal boiler . wish to insulate it . Any suggestions as to materials ? Was thinking woven fiberglass, good for 500 oF. Is it worth while to do it in the first place? Thoughts?

Fiberglass will work but you can get some automotive header wrap at the auto stores, It will take heat a bit better than glass . It can survive open flame if its near the burner.
Some kiln supply companies sell cowl wool ( M Board )it can take a bit more heat but its costly .
