Probably Another Log Tug
« on: October 16, 2016, 13:52:34 »
I recently purchased this 16X7 hull and I think I'll build it as a logging tug. The glass is a little thin in places but its a nice hull that needs little work.
Im new here and want to thank all for the inspiring threads and pictures.

Hello Rick,

Thank you for sharing the start of your "Logging Tug". It looks like the tough little
log handlers that worked here, Bellingham, just across the water from you.

You will just stiffen up the hull from the inside and outside and it will handle the work.
We want to see how you build your tug so keep the pictures coming and all.

Michael:

The fine picture below and others like it can be seen here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2706842

Yet another case of why men and women go down to the sea in ships. . .A pleasure to be here and smell the salt air. Thank you Tugboat Forum. . .Michael in Anacortes, Washington www.twotugboats.com

Appreciate the follow up. Would like to see what others have done with this hull.

Hi Rick, Like your springer rebuild, I would rather build the logging tug hull to my own desires adding and deleting as I see fit.  Just a personal thing.  Either way, I'm sure it will be a fine build.

I agree! Gotta figure out the bulwarks and deck first and then build the house from my napkin file.

I've confirmed with Gary that this is one of his Harkin hulls. Rather than stay with a vintage Harkin theme I decided to put a modern house on it. So, here is a very rough mock up of what I think looks good. Comments, suggestions and criticisms welcome.

Looks good!

Western Mariner is always a good source of photos - also found some videos of tugs in the Fraser showing the small ones.

I have quite a few photos of small tugs as well.

Like this one too Rick.   Hmmm  how come I get all your pictures rotated 90 deg?  Have to stand my laptop on end to view the pic.

I have no idea how the pictures get sideways in the thread but if you click on them they come up full screen and right side up.

Odd - they don't on mine. Might have to save and then rotate in my photo software.

The mock up continues. I did a rough cut out of the window openings and added some bulwarks. I think I may need to drop the house a bit.
