"The Key"
« on: June 22, 2008, 19:39:21 »
Hey All:
Watched the most wonderfull old Black and White movie last night called : "The Key",(1958) starring Trevor Howard,William Holden, Sophia Loren :-*,  and what a great old flick.
I'm sure some of you folks have seen this movie before, but was a first for me.
Lot's of great shot's of , and on, an old (W-88) 'Assurance' (?) class WW2 Steam Tug.
Basicly a story about Salvage towing in WW2, and based out of Westport,UK, I think?

I had no idea this movie was even made. :o
Are there more movies like this out there???

If you have'nt seen this movie, you've got to :)

Photo is of a sistership

I know this is old but so what..  A bit of movie trivia.

How many of you are aware that this movie had at least two versions released?  The one most often shown has our hero Holden, (David), chasing the train with Kane when Loren (Stella) has left and he cant catch it.  A few years ago I had recorded the movie while at work and good that I did because when I watched it, not only had I noticed some differences at the beginning, it has a different ending as well! In this version, David jumps onto the train and finds Stella, and they ride on together, and all is happy, unlike the unhappy ending of the other version. Its several minutes longer all told.  I don't think it has but maybe a couple minutes more tug footage but there is some.  I have only seen this version come on TV once and the DVD I recently got of this movie is the shorter version with the usual ending, which was a bit disappointing to me as I hoped it would be the longer one. Oh well, I have both versions.  The long version is 2 hrs and 14 minutes.
